Giving Back to Our Community

In April 2018, our precious 14-year-old husky, Adelaide, began a search for a sibling companion. After several failed attempts we were fortunate to find “Follow Your Heart Animal Rescue” in Mesa, Arizona!

At our initial visit, the tiniest, weakest of all, a 3-pound white husky mix was most appealing to Adelaide. The rescue had not planned for him to be adopted until his health improved, but after observing our sadness, was willing to let us foster him and nurse him back to health.

Quickly we began a health care journey by working with six different veterinarians, a three-day hospital ICU stay, IV fluids, a blood transfusion, an echocardiogram, multiple medications, and many sleepless nights. Although he is not totally “out of the woods” yet he is growing daily, is full of energy, and into everything! He is now 5 months old and a healthy 30 pounds.

Because of the immense joy our puppy, Benjamin, has brought into our lives we are sponsoring a fund-raising campaign to enable “Follow Your Heart Animal Rescue” to continue their valuable work. This wonderful rescue organization was started in 2012 by the amazing Debbie Varner, using her own meager resources.

They have saved over 5,000 animals and now have their own animal hospital with full time veterinarian, Dr. John Carr. They are a no kill, no shelter rescue and all their animals are in loving foster homes awaiting adoption. The nonprofit organization is funded by private donations and staffed by volunteers. It has 150-200 dogs in rescue/foster care at any one time and always needs additional resources.

Please consider supporting this wonderful organization. Starting donations will begin at three dollars, representing one dollar for each pound of Benjamin’s weight on the day we brought him home. However, any donation is tax deductible and will be greatly appreciated and put to good use. The total amount raised in 2018 was $5,156.

Thank you to everyone who helped us reach our goal. We would love to continue helping this wonderful organization in 2019. Please click the link below and write Benjamin in the invoice box (this will allow us to track donations). Let’s make 2019 the best year ever. Thank you!

International Work

Our oral surgeons and team are pleased to care and provide for those in need. We proudly work with international clinics that provide donated dental and surgical services to those in need. We’ve provided aid to the Veteran’s Affairs, and Transitional Living Center.

Local Sports

We help support and sponsor various events at local high schools. Including golf, football and basketball teams. The entire team at Southwest Oral Surgery is pleased to be a part of these incredibly rewarding programs.

In addition, Ironwood High School Basketball team received another year of mouth guards for the 2018-2019 season. Mouth guards protect basketball players against chipped or broken teeth, root and bone damage, and tooth loss. We look forward to working with them again in 2019-2020.

Mission of Mercy

We are grateful and honored to have been able to help care for individuals that needed dental services in this year’s 7th annual Mission of Mercy. Our entire team has been honored to partner with Mission of Mercy since its founding in 2011.

Food & Toy Drives

With the help of our dental community, we regularly help work with St. Mary’s food drive and toys for tots during the Holiday season. Southwest Oral Surgery wants to thank our wonderful dental community for your participation in the St. Mary’s Food Drive!

Our final donations have been weighed in at 2,450 pounds of food for 2020! This will allow St. Mary’s to provide 2,042 meals for those in need in our community!

Southwest Oral Surgery also assisted the Glendale Fire Department with their annual toy drive for Christmas. With the help of our generous community, we provided 500 families with toys, clothing, food and gift cards.

More than 2,500 kids received toys throughout Glendale and the surrounding communities! Our office collected over 500 toys for the toy drive. Thank you to everyone for supporting us and the Glendale community!

Contact us if you would like to become involved or have questions about our office’s community involvement.
